Helsinki Architectural Delights

Eliel Saarinen's Central Station, Alvar Aalto's Studio, Timo & Tuomo Suomalainen's Temppeliaukio Church, K2S Architects' Kampii Chapel and Anttinen Oiva Architects' University Library - just some of the great architecture Brian & Kevin enjoyed on a recent visit to Helsinki.

"A Victorian cathedral of ironwork" ~ Pevsner

This week BOTA paid a visit to Crossness Pumping Station - a spectacular piece of Victorian engineering conceived by Sir Joseph Bazalgette as part of his wider London sewerage system constructed in the 1860's. Thanks to the volunteer team at Crossness for a fascinating tour and the tea and biscuits!

A House for Essex...

Some of the BOTA team recently enjoyed a short stay at the extravagant 'House for Essex' designed by artist & architect duo Grayson Perry and Charles Holland. Who ever said architects don't like colour! 

Republic of Fritz Hansen showroom visit

The BOTA team would like to thank Sana at Fritz Hansen for an enjoyable visit to learn more about some wonderful furniture and classic Danish design pieces. Here's Brian playing spot the veneer before the evening was topped off with a lovely meal, thanks again!

Setting the Benchmark..

Many thanks to Alexis, Hannah and Sean for their hospitality, the delicious lunch and the fascinating tour of the Benchmark Furniture facility in Kintbury. The skill, care and craftsmanship involved in the whole furniture-making process was wonderful to witness!
